Framing & Art Centre – is proud to present Manitoba artist Julie Harris

Julie Harris has made her name in Manitoba art circles and with global collectors by capturing local scenes on canvas in realistic and precise detail. Mainly choosing scenes well off the beaten track, her research into appropriate subject material has taken her into many areas of the prairie provinces and into North Western Ontario.

Her interest in art began at an early age in her native England. Art history, perspectives, free expression and art forms were major study areas in her Grammar School curriculum. In her late teens she immigrated to Winnipeg where she renewed her interest in art a few years later. As a result, she has achieved an avid appreciation of the region in its extreme seasons and this is evident in her work.

Julie’s first exhibitions were at the Polo Park Art Fair organized by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. This quickly led to solo exhibitions including two at the University of Winnipeg, fourteen annual shows at Eaton’s Gallery of Fine Art and numerous other solo and group exhibitions including all of the annual Manitoba Art Expos since they commenced in 1996. Her work has been shown in galleries in Toronto, Calgary, Minneapolis, Saskatoon and North Battleford.

Over the ensuing years her works have found their way into private collections across Canada and into many countries including the States, Mexico, Japan, England, Germany, Spain, Australia, Brazil, Switzerland and Dubai. The Province of Manitoba has purchased many pieces from her and commissions have included The Royal Bank of Canada, Frederick Eaton, The Canola Council of Canada, and Craig & Ross, Chartered Accountants.

Julie has given many private lessons and also conducted workshops for local art clubs

Her work may also be viewed at her home studio in Grosse Isle, seven miles north of Winnipeg.
